Wm.
Salter Classic fly reels are based on the designs of the Golden
Age of British fly reel making by the likes of Hardy Bros., Walter
Dingley, J. W. Young and Reuben Heaton. The 23/4 inch (2.72" to be precise, or 6.8cm) diameter reel weighs just 33/4 oz (105gm) and suits a 3 or 4 weight line for the ultimate lightweight flyfishing experience. The drag uses a traditional click & pawl with an improved calliper spring, making it compatible for either right or left hand wind. This type of check system was used on many fly reels up until the 1920s and on some centrepins today. There is no initial bias in the spring for either left or right hand wind though, over time and use, a bias will set in to suit the user. This season's reels are in a lighter coloured, pewter anodised finish (unlike the photo). The 31/8 inch (8.0cm) diameter reel weighs 51/2 oz and is ideal for a 5 or 6 weight line, but will hold a WF7 with 50yds of backing. A traditional click & pawl system with dual pawls, making it changeable for right or left hand wind, is regulated by an adjuster on the rim. Similar drag systems are still fitted to Hardy's Classic and Heritage reels, such as the Perfect, St. George, Bougle, Princess and Lightweight. Finished in the original dark gunmetal. Both reels look good on a traditional cane rod, but are suitable for glass or carbon too. Each comes with an attractive black neoprene pouch. The 2/4 wt. reel costs just £62.00, and the 5/7 wt. £72.00. UK Shipping, by Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded, will cost £4.00. Buyers
